Acquisition of a telephone booth from the 2000s

Formerly in service in Santa Bàrbara, it was donated by the company Telefónica de España

The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) has added a phone booth from the first decade of the 2000s to its collection. The object, which was in service in the town of Santa Bàrbara, Montsià, was donated to the Museum by the company Telefónica de España.

The booth is a Garza model with symmetrical doors, manufactured by the company Garza-Diviloc, and was the last phone booth model to be manufactured in Spain. It measures 243.5 cm high, 91.5 cm deep and 112.5 cm wide.

The MNACTEC aims through this acquisition to preserve in its collection an important record of the technological development of the telephone service in the country during the second half of the 20th century, which represented a revolution in telecommunications, and has now practically disappeared because of the emergence of mobile telephones.
