Monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt

One of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in the district

The monastery of Sant Llorenç de Munt is one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in the district. All that remains of the original monastery are the church, the belltower and a galilee porch on the southern facade. It was built from blocks of stone quarried from the mountain itself.

The church is built in the 11th-century Lombard style, although the earliest documented records of the monastery date from the late 10th century. The building stands at La Mola, on the summit of the Sant Llorenç mountain, and can only be reached on foot.
