In the early 1950s, at the height of electric restrictions, the director of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, Felip Mateu i Llopis, requested an electric generator from the Diputació de Barcelona. The Diputació provided this engine which had been taken apart in Barcelona after the Second World War. This engine was installed in “the tunnel”, in the former Casa de Convalescència.
