The Catalan Government has agreed to declare the Water and Textile Museum of Manresa as a new section museum of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC).
In accordance with Museums Act 17/1990, of 2 November 1990, the declaration as a section of a national museum has the following effects: coordination of exhibitions, documentation and outreach with the corresponding national museum; financial support to cover operating expenses; technical and organisational advice; facilitation and support in restoration activities, and support for museum heritage documentation and outreach.
The declaration as a section museum of the MNACTEC serves as recognition of the efforts by the Water and Textile Museum of Manresa as a leading national museum in the sphere of the textile ribbon industry and water process, as well as a key cultural and heritage management agent within the surrounding region. The announcement likewise highlights the role of the Museum as an innovative flagship in the realm of conservation, research, outreach and the showcasing of scientific and technical heritage exhibits, along with its social commitment.
The declaration also offers recognition of the work performed by the Water and Textile Museum of Manresa within the Territorial Structure of the MNACTEC, a network of 28 museums and heritage sites explaining industrialisation in Catalonia.
The request for the declaration as a section museum was submitted by the Board of Trustees of the Manresa Water Foundation - Irrigation Channel Board, with the support of a number of prominent public institutions and bodies from the world of academia and museums.
Following this declaration, the MNACTEC now has 8 section museums: the Capellades Paper Mill Museum, the Igualada Leather Museum, the Cork Museum of Catalonia (Palafrugell), the Cercs Mines Museum, the Castelló d’Empúries Flour Mill Ecomuseum, the River Ter Museum (Manlleu), the Capdella Hydroelectric Museum, and the Water and Textile Museum of Manresa.
