Project for the Capdella Cardboard Hospital

Experts have presented the value of the facility and how it could be restored

The Capdella Hydroelectric Museum was today the venue for the presentation of the provisional operational plans for the restoration of the Capdella Cardboard Hospital (Vall Fosca). This is a strategic intervention project commissioned by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Catalan Autonomous Government's Department of Culture, supported by the National Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia and with the assistance of a cross-functional and interdisciplinary working commission. The project explains and structures the decisions and actions required in order to plan and responsibly work on this element of architectural heritage, probably the only one of its kind anywhere in the world.

A cross-functional and interdisciplinary working party was set up to oversee conservation of the Cardboard Hospital, comprising the technical staff of the Capdella Hydroelectric Museum and Capellades Paper Mill Museum, belonging to the Territorial Structure of the National Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia (MNACTEC), the Directorate-General Cultural Heritage, the Valls d'Àneu Ecomuseum, the IDAPA and outside specialists and consultants. The cultural heritage consultant Joan Reguant was commissioned to author the project, and today presented the provisional plans.
