New Eix magazine

The publication aims to showcase scientific, technical and industrial culture and heritage

The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC) and its Territorial Structure are launching a new twice-yearly magazine, Eix, a publication aiming to explain and showcase the scientific and technical culture and heritage of Catalan industrial society.

The magazine discusses topics of industrial and scientific heritage, industrial tourism, industrial heritage around the world, and reflects the work performed by the museums belonging to the Structure.Eix adopts an explanatory tone to appeal to a general readership, setting out its content any straightforward, modern and reliable manner.

The new publication features a central dossier providing an in-depth exploration of a specific topic; articles about notable elements of Catalan industrial heritage, flagship brands or unknown heritage; photographic double-page spreads; contributions and views of experts; interviews, suggested industrial heritage outings, and other content. The magazine is published in Catalan, with abstracts in Spanish and English.

The first edition dedicates the central dossier to "Women in the Factory", a look back at the contribution made by female labour to Catalan industrialisation. The interview with Lorna Davidson, director of the tourism complex at the Scottish textile colony of New Lanark, explains the unique features of one of the first industrial colonies anywhere in the world. The Discovery, a section dedicated to unknown heritage, takes us on a historical journey around the Terramar Racetrack, a jewel of the motoring world located between Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes. Other magazine content includes a look at Juanola cough sweets in the section "The Brand", and a guided tour by Francesc Mauri around the mNACTEC's main site.

The magazine will be issued twice a year, once in May and once in October. It will be on sale at all the museums of the mNACTEC Territorial Structure, as well as in leading bookshops around the country. The cover price will be 8 euros at points of sale or euros per issue with an annual subscription, costing 12 euros, which includes home delivery. Subscriptions can be purchased using the form on the mNACTEC website.
