The museums of the Territorial Structure of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) generated 3.06 euros for every euro invested by public authorities (Catalan government, municipal, district and provincial authorities) in 2022. The numbers come from the 2022 MNACTEC Territorial Structure Economic Impact Study, produced by the consultancy Rusiñol & Associats, and analysing 18 of the 26 museums within the Territorial Structure. The economic impact figure has increased by 43% since the first report in 2017, when it stood at 2.14 euros per euro of public money invested.
In overall terms, public authorities dedicated investment and current expenditure totalling 8,182,917.07 euros in 2022 to the 18 museums of the MNACTEC Territorial Structure. This public investment in the museums generated an economic impact of 24,928,760 euros across Catalonia.
The effects linked to economic impact generated by these museums during 2022 correspond in the main to expenditure on transport (33%), accommodation (22%), and restaurants (16%). In terms of employment, the report concludes that the activity generated by the museums of the MNACTEC Territorial Structure in 2022 adds up to 407 (equivalent) jobs.
