The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) has added two major document holdings to its Jordi Nadal Documentation Centre, covering the Vapor Ventalló and Vapor Albiñana steam-powered factories in Terrassa. The MNACTEC was able to acquire this material thanks to a donation by Conxa Bayó Soler and Mercè Borràs Roca, who had previously maintained this significant legacy from Terrassa's industrial history.
The donation supplements and expands the documentation covering industrial heritage and the history and evolution of technology and science at the local, national and international level already held at the MNACTEC Documentation Centre.
The Vapor Ventalló factory standing on Carrer de la Rasa was designed in 1897 by Lluís Muncunill, and operated as a business from the middle of the 19th century up to the mid-1990s. The holding donated to the MNACTEC covers documentation from 1905 to 1990, including industrial tax records, accounting books, copy records of letters, inventories and shareholder and general meetings books, correspondence and other material.
The Vapor Albiñana or Albinyana Factory, known locally as La Farinera (the Flour Mill), is an important industrial complex located between the streets Cervantes, Sant Gaietà, Sant Valentí and Mare de Déu dels Àngels, likewise designed by Lluís Muncunill and built in various stages at the end of the 19th century on the site which up until 1882 had been occupied by a former flour mill. The holding donated to the MNACTEC includes documentation from the 1880s up until the 1950s, comprising various books of accounts and correspondence, ledgers, plans, copy records of letters, etc.
