MNACTEC and MESCO promote industrial and corporate heritage

The agreement aims to promote industrial and company heritage preservation, research and outreach

The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) and the Association of Corporate Museums and Landmark Sites (MESCO) have signed a memorandum of understanding to underpin their collaboration in corporate and industrial, scientific and technical heritage preservation, research and outreach.

This agreement establishes a collaborative framework to develop joint projects linked to the history of science, medical technology and industrial research, as well as promoting the research, protection and showcasing of heritage held in the archives, museums and corporate sites that form part of MESCO, with the technical and institutional support of MNACTEC.

Four spheres of collaboration

The agreement defines 4 operational strands:

· Technical advice: mutual support between MNACTEC and the companies belonging to MESCO in the field of preventive conservation and restoration of industrial equipment.

· Visibility and outreach: inclusion of the MESCO sites and museums within the routes, activities and promotional initiatives of the MNACTEC Territorial Structure, and vice versa.

· Exhibition projects: organisation of combined museum displays and projects linking the history of specific brands or companies to the technological and industrial evolution of their surrounding context.

· Education: promotion and development of teaching days, seminars and educational activities addressing cultural heritage management in the private and business sphere.

This formal agreement underpins the shared aim of both institutions to embellish the status of industrial and business heritage as an essential part of national collective memory.

The document covers an initial period of two years, laying the foundations for future specific agreements to define the initiatives and projects arising from this alliance.
