Documentary 'La Foneria de Sant Sebastià de la Muga'

This former industrial site lies within the Darnius-Boadella reservoir in Alt Empordà

The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) has produced a documentary about the Royal Foundry of Sant Sebastià de la Muga, a factory producing munitions for cannon in the 18th century, located within the Darnius-Boadella reservoir in the municipality of Sant Llorenç de la Muga, Alt Empordà. The industrial site is only visible during years of extreme drought.

Built in the 18th century on the orders of Charles III, it was the first blast furnace for cast iron production in Catalonia, and was used to manufacture artillery munitions for the Spanish army. It was destroyed in the late 18th century over the course of the War of the Convention between the Spanish monarchy and the French Republic
