Acquisition of a 17th-century petronel

Petronels are a type of muzzle-loading pistol characteristic of Catalonia

The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC) has acquired an exceptional 17th-century petronel, a type of muzzle-loading pistol characteristic of Catalonia, used primarily in the 16th and 17th centuries.

This acquisition is part of the expansion of the weapons archives of the mNACTEC, which focuses mostly on Catalan hand firearms from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. Catalan weapons from this historical period are of great interest given their high quality and the technical developments they introduced.

In keeping with this, mNACTEC is currently preparing various projects which aim to showcase the importance of the production of this type of weapon in Catalonia.
