Cet ouvrage est le résultat d'un projet de recherche sur la figure et l'œuvre de l'ingénieur Gustave Eiffel, qui vise à approfondir l'activité qu'il développa en Catalogne et à analyser l'influence qu'il exerça sur l'ingénierie catalane et la construction de grandes infrastructures métalliques associées au réseau de transport terrestre.

L'ingénierie d'Eiffel en Catalogne est le neuvième ouvrage publié dans la collection « Thèmes du patrimoine industriel », dirigée et coordonnée par le MNACTEC.
