Catalonia: modelling the future with supercomputing

Two scientific and technical installations by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center show what supercomputing is, and its importance for our society

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) presents the exhibition “Catalonia: modelling the future with supercomputing" at the MNACTEC, in which two scientific and technical installations illustrate the concept of supercomputing, and its importance for our society.

These scientific and technical exhibits are:

  • The eternal obsession: an interactive abacus inviting visitors to reflect on the acceleration of knowledge and the factors allowing us to solve the challenges of the present and anticipate those of the future more swiftly.
  • The second: a sandpit illustrating the huge computing power of the MareNostrum 5 by means of grains of sand.
