15 Years of Restoration at the MNACTEC

46 unique objects from the MNACTEC collections

An exhibition of science and technology objects restored by the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) over the past 15 years, with a dedicated focus on acting for the conservation of Catalan industrial heritage. The MNACTEC Restoration Workshop was founded for the purpose of conserving and restoring objects belonging to our recent past, but which because they have been on display or kept in the archive require intervention.

The exhibition presents an important selection of 46 unique objects from the MNACTEC collections that have been restored in accordance with the criteria employed in each intervention: consolidation actions to arrest degradation, repair actions on damaged parts without adding lost or damaged elements, actions to reinstate lost elements so as to improve a reading of the object, and actions focused on making the heritage element functional again.

The selected restored objects are particularly valuable treasures within the context of Catalonia's industrial heritage. Visitors have the chance to view as part of the exhibition a reflux still, a telephone switchboard, a jacquard loom, the model of the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc, and objects such as the "Mule" steam engine, the clocking-in machine and many others to be found around the various permanent exhibitions.
