On Monday, 20 March, Granollers City Council and the National Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia (MNACTEC) signed a new agreement to extend their cooperation, making the Umbert Roca Thermal Power Plant in Granollers a flagship energy facility within the MNACTEC Territorial Structure, and nationwide. The agreement thus establishes continued efforts to make the thermal power plant a site specialising in all matters related to energy and the energy transition, along with the development of an exhibition, outreach and educational plan. This role for the plant, as a flagship energy facility, will serve to create synergies with other public authorities, institutions, companies and similar sites, as well as hosting events.
The Roca Umbert Thermal Power Plant is a heritage site and visitor centre in Granollers with the aim of preserving and showcasing industrial heritage, and raising public awareness of energy and environmental issues.
It has since 2016 formed part of the Territorial Structure of the MNACTEC, a network of 26 museum and heritage sites explaining the industrialisation of Catalonia through their collections, exhibitions and museum displays of the different productive activities which have taken place.
