The Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC) and the Museum of History of Medicine of Catalonia (MHMC) present the project Surprising Medical Objects, inviting visitors to discover the importance of medical objects and instruments in the way we study and understand the parts and functioning of the human body.
From May to June and October to November a different medical instrument will be put on display each month at the entrance to the exhibition The Human Body: What Am I Like? Visitors will be presented with everything from wax sculptures from the 19th century showing the inside of a pregnant woman's body, to the instruments that belonged to the naturalist Odón de Buen, leading light of Spanish oceanography.
In addition to the exhibition of medical objects, once a month workshops and talks will be held to discuss these exhibits and provide a greater insight into their history and function.
