"Francesc Salvà i Campillo" research grant awarded

The grant is awarded by the mNACTEC and the Ramon Muntaner Institute

The first edition of the Francesc Salvà i Campillo research grant, funded by the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia and the Ramon Muntaner Institute, has been awarded to the proposal La memòria històrica de la indústria tèxtil a Alfarràs (el Segrià, Lleida) [The historical memory of the textile industry in Alfarràs (el Segrià, Lleida)], submitted by the historian Ramon Dalfó. This 4,000 euro grant is awarded to historical and/or heritage research projects from the different fields which make up the industrial, scientific and technological heritage, history and culture of Catalonia (mobile, immobile, and/or intangible heritage).

The Jury highlighted the interest of the study submitted, as well as the applicability lines it proposes. It also emphasised the fact that this industrial topic is not widely known or studied. The project incorporates oral accounts which has been collected and highlights the need for this to be done while there are still people who are able to talk about this. This proposal studies a social context and a territory closely connected to water at different points in history.

The members of the Jury also praised the excellent quality of the proposals submitted, encouraging academics and researchers to continue this work.
