The 26 industrial museums of the Territorial Network of the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) clocked up more than 437,000 visits 2014, 25% more than the previous year. Over the last five years, the museums belonging to the network have received close on 2 million visitors.
The MNACTEC Territorial Network comprises 26 museums and heritage sites around Catalonia, explaining the process and history of industrialisation, through their collections and/or the museum presentation of the different production activities that have taken place there and of which comprehensible remains still exist, comprising our industrial heritage.
One of the main aims of the MNACTEC is to preserve the heritage of the industrial society allowing us to explain Catalonia's industrialisation is one of the most distinctive features of its national personality. As a result, in 1998, as one of the aims of the current Museums Act, approval was given for the Decree to create the first national themed network based on the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia, grouping together different museums and distinctive heritage sites explaining a particular thematic aspect of the process of industrialisation in a specific location within Catalonia.
