Hydroelectric production started in the late 19th century and many of these pioneering installations still conserve this environmentally friendly industrial practice. This publication provides a well-documented and precise account of electric production in Catalonia using water as a source of energy. This book is designed to show readers - river by river and through text and images - all the installations which are currently making industrial use of our rivers as well as generating renewable energy.

The author, Joan Carles Alayo i Manubens (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1948), is an expert in the electrical industry and a doctor in industrial engineering by the UPC. A member of the Catalan Society for the History of Science and Technology, since 1970 he has worked in companies of the sector and is a collaborator of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia.
