Gabriel Lluelles, industrial designer

The exhibition presents the most representative appliances created by the Catalan designer who invented the Minipimer

Until 13 January 2026

The exhibition “Gabriel Lluelles, industrial designer” discovers the most representative appliances designed by Gabriel Lluelles (Barcelona, 1923-2012), the industrial designer who best exemplifies the birth and consolidation of this profession in our country.

Lluelles designed 33 appliances for the companies Pimer, Braun and Taurus: hair dryers, toasters, coffee grinders, fans, crushers or liquefiers. The exhibition at the MNACTEC presents more than 70 pieces, which include different finishes and modifications that were marketed for each appliance, and which show its double facet as an industrial engineer and designer. Original packaging, advertising elements and other unpublished documents are also on display.

In the post-war scenario, and despite the scarcity of materials and the precariousness of industrial resources, Lluelles designed small appliances that facilitated household tasks and are characterized by a sober formal elegance. He worked for Pimer, spanish delegation of Braun and Taurus, the most prominent small household appliances companies between 1960 and 1980. He designed products that have become authentic icons of an era, with a great presence in the national and international market, and even generic denominations as popular as Minipimer.

The exhibition has been produced by the Alfaro Hofmann Collection, an entity dedicated to the dissemination of its collections on the culture of the everyday object, which consists of more than 10,000 pieces of diverse origin. In its headquarters located in the Valencian town of Godella, about 400 appliances are permanently exhibited.
