Catalana de Gas y Electricidad Archive (1913-1929)

A graphic account of the construction of the first hydroelectric power plants in the valley of the river Ésera

The exhibition "Catalana de Gas y Electricidad Archive", presented through the Google Arts & Culture platform, offers a graphic account of the construction of the first hydroelectric power plants in the valley of the Ésera river. The exhibit consists of a selection from the more than 2,000 photographs of the Catalana de Gas y Electricidad Archive, conserved at MNACTEC, which immortalizes the technological and human challenge posed by the construction of these infrastructures.

From 1913 to 1929, the company Catalana de Gas i Electricitat developed a project on an epic scale in the Ribagorza Pyrenees in Aragon to build several hydroelectric power plants and a 225 km transmission line to supply the growing demand for electricity in the city of Barcelona.
