A Highway behind the Power Socket

An interactive journey to discover what electricity is, how it is transmitted and managed

The exhibition "A Highway behind the Power Socket" is an interactive journey to discover what electricity is, how it is transmitted and managed. The aim of the exhibition, produced by the Spanish grid operator REE, is to explain how the electricity system works and raise awareness among the general public that improving energy efficiency is a matter for all of us.

The exhibition invites us to participate, experiment and discover. It presents its audience with exhibits of interest on various levels (educational, interactive, current and linked to reality), binding together all the content in a continuous discourse, in particular as regards a more efficient and sustainable electricity system.

The exhibition is divided into three sections:

  1. The first section of the exhibition focuses on the physical principles of electricity, and the thousand and one faces of this phenomenon.
  2. The second section explains the process of electrical supply: the challenge of balancing generation and consumption. How is electricity generated? How does it travel around electricity grids? How does it reach our homes? In short, what an electricity system is and how it functions.
  3. In the third section visitors, as citizens and as consumers, come to the fore. They are able to use interactive elements to understand how we consume electricity and what effect our consumption habits have on the system as a whole.
