The pulse jet engine is the simplest type of jet engine. It consists of a tube with two nozzles for inlet and outlet, a fuel diffuser, and a combustion chamber. With the vehicle’s movement the air current that goes through the device is mixed with the fuel and burnt thanks to the effect of the spark plugs. This causes the fumes to expand and leave the exhaust pipe, allowing the vehicle to speed up going forward.
The first pulse jet engine was invented in 1917 by Catalan Ramon Casanova i Danés. The piece conserved at the MNACTEC is the only existing replica of this engine.
