The Pelton wheel is made up of buckets which are especially designed to catch water and make the best use possible of energy. This type of turbine is designed for use in low pressure hydraulic jumps. Water is guided through long tubes with major differences in level or leaps to guarantee a maximum of kinetic energy. At the end of the tube there are injectors which `place pressure on the buckets characteristic of this type of turbine.

This wheel was specifically designed and built for use in the river Nere (Vall d’Aran) for a hydroelectric power station which was never finally built.
