Mathematics and life

Mathematics and life. Day-to-day life, beyond formulas

From October, 06 2010 to June, 30 2018

The exhibition is an invitation to discover the mathematics that exist in our everyday lives, via a thought-provoking journey through the contexts that make up our typical day. The exhibition aims to present the link between mathematics and everyday life in an attractive and comprehensible manner for a non-specialist audience, while showing the role of mathematics on the basis of everyday reality, with natural and approachable expressions for normal, everyday people of all ages and levels, and different professional contexts.

The exhibits showcase the contribution made by mathematics to quality of life in today's society, aiming to break down the stigma of a difficult subject distanced from reality, by presenting maths in a fun and varied manner, giving rise to new lessons to be learnt, including recent research results, generating enthusiasm and a desire to share in these discoveries.

The exhibition panels, real everyday objects, interactive computers, audiovisual screens and hands-on objects allow visitors to ask themselves questions and find some of the answers, to discover, reflect and be amazed by the common sense of mathematics.
