Industrial Empordà

Route around Empordà through the different landscapes and industries of the 18th century

From April, 25 2018 to November, 11 2018

This exhibition presents a route around Empordà through the different 18th-century landscapes and industries, offering an overview of the evolution of history, types of industry and different industrialization models.

The exhibition is divided into eight sections relating to the four types of economies established in Empordà thanks to the introduction of power. These economies conditioned by the sea, plains, areas with lower production, and mountains led to the development of different types of industry. Among these it is worth noting the production of cork tops which began in Catalonia in the first half of the 17th century and was greatly transformed well into the 19th century. This unique industrial model stood out from the predominant model in Catalonia, that of cotton production.

This is a collaborative Project of the National Museum for Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC), the Ecomuseum-Flour Mill of Castelló d’Empúries and the Cork Museum in Palafrugell.
