Do Tourism… Industrial!

Exhibition on the MNACTEC Territorial Network

From January, 16 2007 to September, 15 2007

This exhibition has been organised with the aim of presenting the work performed by the MNACTEC as the coordinator of numerous initiatives for the conservation, study and dissemination of Catalan Industrial Heritage, through the creation of a Territorial Network that covers the whole of Catalonia.

The MNACTEC provides 24 Industrial Tourism Trails, with 163 items of interest across Catalonia. The proposed tour to explore the industrial heritage of Barcelona takes in 57 landmarks divided into 9 routes covering the whole city, and providing an insight into its industrial past. The exhibition likewise collates the initiatives developed by other institutions working towards the dissemination of Catalan industrial heritage. Total Tourism, by the Barcelona Provincial Authority, presents the industrial tourism sites on offer close to Barcelona, with 73 points of interest, 10 themed areas and 11 routes. Visitors to Terrassa can follow a virtual tour to visit the industrial and civil engineering works of the modernist architect Lluís Muncunill.

The exhibition reveals the possibilities offered by the museums within the network, such as setting foot inside a coal mine, walking along seven hundred metres of a lead mine tunnel, or strolling around the ruins of the most spectacular cement factory in Catalonia, among others.
